Schwarzbier is a German style lager which got its name by its colour, i.e. black (Schwarz in German), though you won’t ever find one that is truly black since the Germans sense of black, at least when it comes to beer, is rather faint. In North America this beer may also be called black pilsner, though this is misleading, since it has absolutely no pilsner characteristics. Malt clearly dominates both aroma and taste with some caramel notes, a hint of chocolate but no roastiness. Malt: 2-Row, Munich, CaraMunich, CaraAroma and Carafa Hops: Hallertauer Tradition and Hallertauer Mittelfrüh.
